Talc Powder Alert!
Henry C Dailey, Personal Injury attorney is actively investigating lawsuits against Johnson & Johnson alleging that talcum used in the health care giant's products - including Baby Powder and Shower to Shower -causes ovarian cancer.
Talc is made up mostly of magnesium, silicon and oxygen, which, when ground into a powder form, can absorb moisture. For decades, talcum powder has been widely used to help keep skin dry and to prevent irritation and rashes. But when used on or near the genitals, particles can travel into the ovaries and remain there for years, causing inflammation and leading to the growth of cancer cells.
The known link between Johnson &Johnson's products containing talcum powder and ovarian cancer is not new. It dates back to the early 1970s when studies of ovarian cancer patients showed particles of talc in their ovarian tissue.
In fact, a study by a Harvard doctor estimates that talc in hygiene products may be a contributing factor in the development of ovarian cancer in as many as 10,000 women each year.
Despite the scientific evidence, talcum powder continued to be used by Johnson & Johnson, unregulated and without any warning from the manufacturer.
Johnson & Johnson is currently facing more than 1,000 lawsuits alleging its products have led to ovarian cancer. In late February 2016, a Missouri jury weighed in clearly and strongly on the matter. It ordered Johnson & Johnson to pay $72 million to the family of a 62-year-old Alabama woman who died last year of ovarian cancer allegedly caused by years of using the company's talc-based products.
